What does the $35.00 Pay for?
The $35 covers the cost of the Food, Course Materials, Correspondence, and Training Booklet.

How do I register?
Fill out the Registration Form and Send it in with $35.00 to the Scout Service Center.

Where can I get the Registration Form?
1. You can Download and Print out the Registration form.
2. You can Pick one up from the Council Service Center( Ann Arbor ).
3. Each Troop will be mailed one - Coming Soon
4. Each Expresso File has one in it.

How does this course fit into the overall Boy Scouts of America training process?
This Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills course is one of many courses available to the leader as shown in the new BSA Training Overview. You will see that this course is ideal for any leader that works with the youth in the outdoors.

Who should attend this course?
This training applies to troop leaders, Varsity Scout and Venturing leaders, 2nd Year Webelos Scout leaders, and anyone else who needs to teach the Outdoor Skills.

What do you mean by Hands-On?
The Skills will be demonstrated and then you will have a chance to become comfortable with each skill, working in small groups with a 1:4 participant to staff ratio.

What skills are covered in this course?
See the skill survey for a listing of the Major skills covered. We will also expand out and cover skills associated with these such as how to lead a worship service, plan a campfire program, and do some backpacking.

Who is teaching the course?
We are pulling together a fine training staff with a whole range of outdoor skills. We are providing a good mix of experiences, from heavy duty backpackers to plant and animal experts. All of them are Scouters that have gone through the paces of working with the youth and now wish to pass that knowledge on to you.

I heard about a Troop Guide, what do you mean by that?
Each group of approxiamately 8 participants will be grouped into a patrol. Each patrol will have a choosen staff member working with them the whole weekend. We call this staff member a Troop Guide. They are experienced in the outdoor skills. This person has a wide range of outdoor experiences and will coach your group along throughout the weekend. They will work with you in your campsite doing everything from setting up a campsite to preparing meals to folding the American Flag.

How do we know what to bring?
Once you register you will be provided with a list of required equipment for the course. It is nothing more than your personal gear & tent.

Who provides the cook gear?
The only equipment you will need to bring is your personal gear. List of Personal Gear provided once you have registered. The stoves, pots and pans, cooking utinsels, food, and dining fly will be provided by the course.
